I painted this from a photo I took yesterday of my neighbor's beautiful blooms on her cactus.  The southwestern desert is full of color right now, with so many different plants in bloom.

This is painted on a deep edge canvas, and the edges are painted black -- no need to frame.

This is very different from the work I usually post.  I created this in a class with Rob Stenberg, a local mixed media artist who is currently at the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale.  I had great fun creating this work; and I want to do more.  I have lots of ideas for the techniques used in this piece.

This is another painting I've done for the upcoming fund-raiser for Gilbert Visual Art League in Gilbert, AZ on November 15. This is our annual 5x7 sale, where GVAL members donate the paintings and they are all sold for $25.00 each. I often paint cactus flowers.  There are so many varieties and colors here in the southwestern desert.  I take as many photos as I can each spring when they bloom, and I painted this from one of my photos.  Thank you for viewing my art.

Yellow Cactus Flower, 6x6 oil painting

This past Spring I took many photos of the blooming cactus along the route where I ride my bike; and I painted this from one of those photos.  There are so many colors and varieties of prickly pear cactus, ranging from yellow-green to pink, purple and deep red.  The blossoms are many different colors, too.  The Sonoran Desert is a colorful place in the springtime.

Cactus flowers brighten the landscape in the desert southwest.  They range from bright pink to peach, yellow and reds; and it's a delight to see them.  This cactus flower was on a smaller variety of cactus in my neighbor's yard.  I often take photos of these brightly colored flowers when I ride my bike on Spring mornings.
