Unframed

Peonies give me fits!  I painted this from a photo I took of a still life setup in Krista Eaton's class at Scottsdale Artist's School.  I'm still working on a larger painting I started in that class.  This was some good practice.

Desert Bloom, 6x6 oil painting

Desert Bloom

6x6 oil painting

on deep edge canvas

I painted this from a photo I took yesterday of my neighbor's beautiful blooms on her cactus.  The southwestern desert is full of color right now, with so many different plants in bloom.

This is painted on a deep edge canvas, and the edges are painted black -- no need to frame.

Hummer, 6x6 oil painting

Hummer

6x6 oil painting

on Raymar cotton panel

This is a painting I re-worked a bit to give it a little more life.  I had done it as a study for a similar painting I gave my mother for her 94th birthday last week.  I think she liked the one I did for her -- it brightened her day.

I painted this as a study for a painting that I will do for my mother, Trudy.  Trudy will celebrate her 94th birthday next week, and she loves hummingbirds.  Thanks to photographer Tim Davis for providing the reference photo on Corbisimages.com.

Three's Company, 6x6 acrylic painting

Three's Company

6x6 acrylic painting

on deep-edge canvas

I haven't painted sunflowers in a while, so I did this little study to keep in practice.  This painting is on a small deep-edge canvas, so there's no need to frame it.  The sides are painted black (actually, the background and the sides are Payne's Gray acrylic -- not quite black).

Vinca, 6x6 oil painting

Vinca

6x6 oil painting

on Raymar cotton panel

I painted this from a photo of my periwinkles in my back yard.  I grow them all year -- they are the only flowering plant I can get to survive the extreme summer heat in Phoenix.  They are always so colorful.

Water Lilies, 6x6 oil painting

Water Lilies

6x6 oil painting

on Raymar cotton panel

I have visited many of the California missions, and one of the things I love is that many have beautiful fountains.  Those that are working fountains often have floating water lilies in a variety of colors.  I painted this from a photo I took of the fountain at San Juan Capistrano, one of the most beautiful missions.

Winter Rose, 6x6 oil painting

Winter Rose

6x6 oil painting

on Raymar cotton panel

This flower gave me fits!  I painted it from life -- a rose from the miniature bush I bought at the market last year.  I struggled to keep the plant alive during our hot summer months, and once the weather cooled down, it bloomed like crazy.  It produces the most delicate white and pink roses, but what a challenge to paint it! The little glass jar is also from the market -- so cute, it had fruit in it.  The lemon was recycled from yesterday's painting, from the tree in my back yard.  Tonight it's going to be 29 degrees here in Mesa, so I think this may be the last of my lemons that you see.  I hope the tree survives.

Delightful Daisies

I recently did another daisy painting that sold very quickly. I got so many nice compliments on it that I decided to paint more daisies.

Let's take a moment to remember September 11, 2001.  United we stand.

I've been practicing painting daisies, and I was pleased with this little study.
